House Introduces Companion Bill to EARN IT Act. Sept. 30, 2020

On September 30th, Reps. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) and Ann Wagner (R-MO) introduced the bipartisan Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies (EARN IT) Act. This piece of legislation is the House companion bill to the bipartisan Senate version, which was introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and has already been unanimously passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The bill would will facilitate the creation of best practices to prevent and respond to online child sexual abuse material; enable online companies to be held civilly liable and subject to state prosecution if they violate child sexual abuse laws; enhance reporting to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline, and much more.
